The Koufonisia Islands

The Koufonisia islands is a tiny complex comprising of the Ano (Upper) Koufonisi and Kato (Lower) Koufonisi, and are also part of the small island cluster called Small Cyclades. Located between Naxos and Amorgos, the islands are famous for their beautiful, golden beaches, characteristic Cycladic landscape and the relaxed ambience. Their character is completely unspoilt and their inhabitants small in number but with a distinctive, warm and charming personality to match the rhythms of their environment.

The two islands, Ano Koufonissi and Kato Koufonissi lie next to each other and are separated by a narrow channel of water about 200m wide. Ano Koufonissi is a beautiful island with a surprisingly cosmopolitan atmosphere. Kato Koufonissi is nowadays uninhabited. Both islands are famous for their exotic beaches, unspoiled Cycladic beauty, and great food and gather many visitors each year, especially during July and August when they become particularly crowded.
